MOGADISHU –Deadly explosion followed by an ambush attack claimed by Al Shabaab hit Kenyan vehicle carrying military soldiers along Somali-Kenyan border.
Kenyan armored vehicle ran over a bomb explosive hidden on the roadside in Dhamase area near the border, killing at least one soldier on board.
Kenya’s North Eastern regional Coordinator Mohamud Salah said a KDF soldier had been killed and several others injured in roadside explosion.
Salah said the soldiers were on a routine patrol of the porous border, adding that no arrest was made as more security officers have been mobilizing and are pursuing the attackers.
Monday’s attack was claimed by the Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group on its website, saying it killed an army boss and other soldiers in the gun and bomb attack.
The group also said 5 Kenyan armoured personnel carriers were also destroyed and another one had been seized during the ambush assault.
The Somali militants have been targeting military and police vehicles either by laying an ambush or planting explosives on the road in Mandera and Garissa counties.
