BADHADHE, (Garsoor Online) – Somalia army troops, along with Kenyan Defense Forces under African Union mission in Somalia have launched multi-pronged assault in Badhadhe town held by Al Shabaab.

The African Union said on Twitter that the coalition forces captured the town from Al Shabaab earlier this morning.

It added the militant grout of Al Shabaab fighters suffered heavy losses during the joint military operation.

The town is now under control of Somalia National Army (SNA) and African Union peacekeeping forces from Kenya.

“We (Somalia and AMISOM) are now moving into militant’s offices cautiously and clearing up EIDS planted by the militants on the roads of the town”, its Twitter feed said.

Last year, Kenyan forces withdrew from the town over unknown reason as the militants successfully returned to the town.

No was available from Al Shabaab over the allied forces’ claims of Badhadhe town seizure as it close to Somalia and Kenya border.
