AFGOOYE (Garsoor Online) – Deadly assault targeting army bases in Afgooye town, 30Km south of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, has killed at least 8 people, a witness and police said.
Five government soldiers were among the dead, a witness said.
The attack happened at Bulo-folyo area after Al Shabaab militants launched an ambush attack on police and military stations, as both sides used heavy and slight weapons, according to residents.
Mohamed Amin, a police officer said that government forces repulsed militants’ attacks, saying the troops are now control the town.
In the aftermath of the attack, the militants reportedly took control of parts in the town.
Meanwhile, roadside bomb explosion targeted one of several vehicles carrying dozens of reinforcement troops, who were heading to Afgooye town, residents said.
The attack comes days after the militants carried out deadly raid in the town, killing at least 9 people including government soldiers.
