QORYOLEY, Somalia, (Garoor Online) – Heavily armed fighters from Al Shabaab have launched an assault on army bases in Qoryoley town in south of Somalia, Garsoor Online reports.

The raid targeted military and police stations in the town, as the armed group’s militants clashed with the government troops for several hours, residents said.

“I was sleeping but immediately awoke from it when I heard heavy gun shots between Somalia army and police troops and Al Shabaab fighters”, Hassan Hussein, a witness tells Garsoor Online.

The government troops reportedly withdrew from the town over the ambush attack and moved to African Union (AMISOM) troops’ camp outside the town.

It could not be independently verified the exact number of casualty.

In an online statement, the group said it had inflicted heavy loses upon them [government troops] during the assault.

The fighters from Al Shabaab carry out several attacks on Somalia army and African Union peacekeepers’ bases in and out of the town, as coalition officials claim to repulse those attacks.
